Those in gardening and horticulture who knew him, are saddened by the sudden loss of Peter Seabrook MBE, a man who could genuinely be called " Mr. Horticulture. “ I was privileged to have known him for over 50 years and considered him a good friend. And he was of course very much a friend of gardeners and professional horticulture. He faced a challenge as Garden writer for The Sun but was an obvious success continuing for over 30 years, was Presenter for BBC’s Gardener’s World, also for 17 years International presenter for the US based WGBH Victory Garden. Awarded the RHS’s Victoria Medal of Horticulture ( V.M.H. ) despite occasional criticism of it’s policies. Peter fought elitism in Horticulture, and was outspoken in his views, particularly on the use of peat for which he made a plausible case for continued use. Above all he remained his own man, and continued to work as hard for gardeners into his 80’s as he had all his life. It will only be time that reveals his great contribution to many areas of Horticulture.Picture 2. How do you create drama in your winter garden? What are your main characters? How about harmony? What creates it? Adrian loves to use colour in the garden with repetition and alternation across different textures. The deep Red of ‘Bressingham Ruby’ Bergenia at ground level is picked up by flaming red Cornus alba sibirica. Drama is offered by the dying grasses and the whole border comes to life with luminous Betula in the background.
