Plant of the Month – June

Geranium ‘Rozanne’ – hardy geranium, cranesbill

Geranium ‘Rozanne’

(Hardy geranium, cranesbill)

Adrian says:

“When this plant was first introduced in 2000, I had no hesitation in naming it “the hardy geranium of the new millennium”, having grown it for six years just 3 m (10 ft.) from our house where we could enjoy it every day it was in bloom. Hardy, long-lived, amazingly long-flowering and easy to grow, it is a perennial that every garden should have.

Many others obviously agreed with me, for in 2013 this remarkable plant was named the RHS Chelsea Flower Show’s Plant of the Centenary in 2013, having been chosen by a panel of leading horticultural experts as one of the show’s top ten and then voted for by the public as their favourite plant.

I have grown Geranium ‘Rozanne’ in the garden in a container, hanging basket and window box—a truly versatile plant. A decade on, gardeners, nursery growers and designers across the world are singing the praises of ‘Rozanne’: need I say more? And of course one can think of a multitude of associations for it, including as a ‘river’.”
